Getting to the Bourbon Orleans from the Airport: Taxicab, Shuttle, Rental Car

Much of the following information below was taken from or adapted from information found on the 1870 Banana Courtyard B&B website. (http://www.bananacourtyard.com/UsefulInfo.htm)

  • Taxicab: Airport to French Quarter. The city-regulated 2007 airport taxicab fare was $29 for two people each way (3-people or more = $12/person). There may also be a $1 fuel surcharge. (Prices may change.) This is the cheaper alternative if you share a cab, and is faster.
  • Airport Shuttle: Costs about $13 per person, one way. It may take as long as 1.5 hours from airport to French Quarter if many stops are made.
  • Rental Car: Bringing a rental car into the French Quarter is not recommended. Parking is difficult to find, the streets are narrow, and parking at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel is $30 per night. It is easy to get around the French Quarter and surrounding areas using public transportation. “A car is usually more trouble than it is worth in the French Quarter.”

Getting to the Morial Convention Center from the Bourbon Orleans:

  • Walking: The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is 1.1 miles from the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. It takes 15 – 20 minutes to walk from the Bourbon Orleans to the convention center.
  • ACS Convention Shuttle (free): Complimentary shuttle service will be provided by the ACS from the Morial Convention Center to the official ACS hotels. Shuttles will operate during meeting hours from Sunday to Thursday. Because the Bourbon Orleans is not an ACS-listed hotel, it will probably be necessary to walk 4 – 6 blocks to catch the free ACS shuttle. The three closest hotels listed as ACS hotels are the Royal Sonesta at 300 Bourbon Street, the W French Quarter at 316 Chartres Street, and the Hotel Monteleone at 214 Royal Street.
  • Streetcar # 2 Riverfront Line ($1.25/one-way trip; $5/one-day pass; $12/three-day pass): The # 2 Riverfront Streetcar Line can be taken from near the Bourbon Orleans to the Convention Center between the hours of 7 AM and 10 PM. The streetcar runs every 35 minutes, arriving at the convention center in 8 – 10 minutes (assuming the printed schedule is correct.). The streetcar stops frequently, with the stop closest to the Bourbon Orleans being behind Jackson Square (two blocks away), near the river. For the current streetcar schedule, go to http://www.norta.com/routes/index.php and refer to the # 2 Line (Riverfront).
  • Taxi (~$8 for two people plus $1 per extra person): A five-minute ride to the Convention Center.
  • Bus #5 Marigny-Bywater Line($1.25/one-way trip; $5/one-day pass; $12/three-day pass): The # 5 Marigny-Bywater Bus Line can be taken from near the Bourbon Orleans to the Convention Center between the hours of 7 AM and 6 PM. The bus runs every 48 minutes, arriving at the convention center in 8 – 10 minutes (assuming the printed schedule is correct). The bus can be boarded at Decatur Street, two blocks from the Bourbon Orleans. Go to http://www.norta.com/routes/index.php for the current schedule and refer to the # 5 Line (Marigny-Bywater).
