Career Planning

Planning for Your Career

Students often feel anxiety if they have not yet decided on a career, yet research shows that students who view deciding as a process and who take the time to do some investigating before deciding often end up happier with their choices.  At Cottey, we are happy to help you with this process by showing you ways you can explore your innate skills, interests, and abilities. You may think you know all about yourself, but you'll be surprised by what you discover about you in this process.

A variety of tools to assist you are available, including individual counseling, group career activities, a career resource library, career exploration games, and several assessment tools including the Self-Directed Search, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and CHOICES, an interactive program that helps you relate your interests to careers and majors. And if your career choices lead you to a transfer institution or graduate or professional school, we can definitely help there, too.

We also help you prepare to enter the working world with activities like resume building and mock interviews.  Career Central Network (CCN) is available to help you search for jobs and internships, create resumes and portfolios, and find mentors.  CCN also provides helpful career documents, podcasts and videos.

To get started on career planning, please make an appointment with Renee Hampton, in the Academic Assistance Center (AAC), 164 RBAC.  You can call Renee at extension 2184 or email her at
