Secondary Education

Cottey College, a private liberal arts college for women, invites applications for a position in Secondary Education. Cottey is currently expanding its bachelor degree offerings and is looking for an experienced educator to explore, develop and determine the feasibility of a secondary education major program. Candidates will need to have knowledge of high school graduation standards, state certification, national accreditation, personnel and course requirements, and additional resources available in teacher education.

Qualified applicants will hold a doctorate degree in education or a related field with state certification in any content area; have successful experience with NCATE/CAEP or Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; administrative experience such as department head, program leader, curriculum coordinator or similar; experience placing student teachers; teaching experience at the college level and K-12 preferred.

The successful candidate will be a forward looking leader who can demonstrate ability to address the current challenges facing education today and influence change in education moving forward; work with faculty and staff in a collegial way; manage state and federal regulations to ensure certification and accreditation; establish external partnerships with nearby colleges and universities for the delivery of education courses, and with local school districts for student teaching opportunities; create a feasibility and planning document; manage a departmental budget; participate in strategic planning, assessment, program review, and curriculum development; and teach in the program as assigned by the vice president for academic affairs and/or President with usual expectations for faculty responsibilities as noted in the Faculty Handbook.

Environmental Studies

Cottey College, a private liberal arts women’s college, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Environmental Studies, starting August 2015. We seek candidates with broad training in Environmental Studies, with interests and training to develop and offer courses that will complement existing introductory and upper level courses. Teaching background and interests ideally include some of the following: environmental policy, law, health/toxicology, green energy, disaster preparedness, and ethno-medicine. The successful candidate will have demonstrated interest in college teaching and developing hands-on field related courses. PhD required; ABD considered. Piano

Cottey College, a private liberal arts college for women, is seeking an adjunct faculty member in piano to provide instruction in private lessons and group classes for music majors and non-majors starting August 2015.

Duties of Position:

  • Teach group piano classes to second-year music majors. Classes meet twice weekly and include harmonization, transposition, scales, and other techniques that lead to completion of a piano proficiency exam.
  • Teach group piano classes to non-majors including beginners, meeting twice weekly.
  • Teach private lessons to music majors and non-majors.
  • Lead a weekly repertoire (studio) class.
  • Communicate with other team members regarding curriculum material and syllabus.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in music is required.
  • Experience teaching in a studio or classroom setting preferred.
  • Ability to communicate ideas, concepts, and demonstrate techniques to beginning, intermediate, and advanced students.

Head Tennis Coach

Cottey College is seeking a Head Tennis Coach. This is a part-time position. Duties include developing a yearly budget for the Tennis program, recruiting student-athletes, coaching tennis, and complying with the NJCAA rules and regulations. Requires a bachelor’s degree and three years coaching experience.
