A Small Community, a Welcoming Place
Cottey is located in Nevada, Missouri, a town of approximately 9,000 residents. The local climate offers pleasant falls, mild winters and colorful springs as campus community gardens burst into bloom. Nevada has become the hub for recreational, educational, and medical amenities for the area.
In addition to our outstanding local museum, you may explore Nevada and Vernon County's heritage by taking a self-guided driving tour of our Victorian and historic homes. Also visit the earliest known Osage Indian Village in western Missouri. Let it take you to the time before pioneers made Vernon County their home.
Be sure to notice the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside with its abundant wildflowers. A little further northeast is the Schell-Osage Wildlife Area, where you can view blue herons, eagles, ducks and migrating waterfowl. Other natural outdoor adventures including hunting and hiking await you at the August A. Busch, Jr. Memorial Wetlands located at Four Rivers, an area known for its archaeological sites and early native Osage inhabitants.
Not only does our historical climate draw global interest and visitors, more than 400 - 500 sports fans converge on weekends for Champion Diamonds tournament baseball and Nevada Speedway races.
Of course there are also beautiful city parks, bowling facilities, a six-screen movie theater, active community theater and choir group, a newly redesigned water park/swimming pool, and an excellent YMCA facility.
