Kolderie Academic Assistance Center - Career Planning
Career Planning
Career planning and decision making is a life long process that takes time and energy. It requires self-reflection and an awareness of skills, interests, values and personality types. It also takes a commitment to be involved in the process. The more you put into the process the more you will get out of it.
Cottey's transfer and career planning coordinator, located in the Academic Assistance Center, RBAC 164, is available to help students with the exploration and decision making process.
Career Counseling
Individualized career counseling and group career activities are available with the transfer and career planning coordinator. Academic major exploration, evaluating individual interests, skills and values, internship location, college or major selection, and resume reviews are a few of the services available. Call (417) 667-8181, ext. 2132 to set up an individual appointment.
Career Resource Library
The career resource library located in the Academic Assistance Center houses a variety of books that discuss specific majors, careers, job training requirements, starting salaries, and job outlooks. Several of these books can be checked out to help students learn more about the world of work and potential careers.
Career Assessment
Self-awareness is the foundation of good career planning. The transfer and career planning coordinator often uses the Self Directed Search, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), and the Strong Interest Inventory to explore interests, personality style, values and skills.
CHOICES is an interactive program that helps students relate general interests to careers and educational planning. CHOICES offers skill and interest assessments, current and accurate information on over 780 occupations, and comprehensive information about more than 4,000 colleges. It is available in the Academic Assistance center and can be accessed online at CHOICES. The home page displays 3 useful tabs. Students can pick up the Cottey ID and password at the Academic Assistance Center.
