Research Transfer Colleges
The more you know about your college choices and where you want to attend, the smoother your transfer will be. Most colleges/universities accept between 62-70 transfer credits. When researching, pay special attention to the general education requirements, pre-requisites for your intended major, and any other graduation requirements. The resources in the Academic Assistance Center, allow you to access hundreds of college catalogs and our college information files contain applications, scholarship resources and college promotional material.
A variety of books on colleges are part of our career resource library. A few of the most popular titles are:
- Peterson's Four-Year Colleges
- College Handbook
- The Best 345 Colleges
- America's Best Colleges
- Best Buys in College Education
- Insider's Guide to the Colleges
The Career Lab contains college videos/CDs for your viewing. Plus, access to the Internet for researching and requesting information. Cottey subscribes to CollegeSource, a college information resource that boasts over 23,000 college catalogs and offers a free college search.
Visit College Admission Representatives
Throughout the academic year college admission representatives schedule visits to Cottey's campus to recruit students. Cottey's annual Women's College Fair is a great time to find out more about colleges. Women's colleges from across the U.S. come to campus during this evening event.
Research Scholarships, Grants and Financial Aid
Stop by the Academic Assistance Center to view advertised scholarship information or explore the money resource books available in the career resource library.

Visit Colleges and Universities
The most valuable information is the information that you gather yourself. Attend a transfer student visit day or "Open House." Make an appointment to meet with the admissions office, the department in which you plan to major, and take a campus tour.
