Self-Study Report to The Higher Learning Commission
Cottey has been accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) since March 27, 1941.
NCA is one of six regional institutional accrediting associations in the United States. Through its Higher Learning
Commission it accredits, and thereby grants membership to educational institutions in the nineteen-state North Central
region. For more information about the Higher Learning Commission, visit their web site at
www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org.
Cottey's Self-Study Report was submitted to the Higher Learning Commission and a team of consultant- evaluators on March 6,
2003. The team visited Cottey April 28-30, 2003. Cottey's self-study process and the visit from the team were very
successful. The team confirmed that Cottey continues to meet each of the twenty-four General Institutional Requirements,
and that the self-study produced sufficient evidence that the College meets the five Criteria for Accreditation.
According to the team report, Cottey "has a strong mission, a continuing and strong relationship with the P.E.O. Sisterhood,
outstanding human, physical, and financial resources, and the ability to plan for its future. In short, it is a strong
institution that gives every indication that it will continues to meet the GIRS and the Criteria. As a result, the
College's current strengths, together with its ability to plan for its future, warrant another ten-year accreditation cycle."
The next visit from a team of consultant-evaluators is scheduled for 2013.
