Adult Education and Literacy
Assists adults to become literate and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment, become self-sufficient, and to become a full partner in the educational development. Cottey students tutor low level adult readers.

Bee a Reader
An after-school reading program for children at Benton elementary school. Elementary school children work with volunteers to learn and/or improve their reading skills. Cottey students, faculty and staff participate with this after school program on the second Monday of each month while the elementary school is in session.

Council On Families In Crisis - Moss House
Cottey College students give in various ways to the Moss House, a shelter battered women and children. Volunteer time is given to Loretta's Attic, a thrift shop that benefits the Moss House, and for childcare and activities.

Girl Empowerment Club
A Nevada Middle School organization for 6th grade girls that encourages positive self-identity, respect for themselves and others, independence and self-sufficiency and excellence in all they do. Cottey student volunteers are needed during monthly meetings.

Puts Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Cottey students volunteer for one-time special events or for activities throughout the year. Students work with young children, seniors, and everyone in between.

Nevada Parks and Recreation
Provides varied learning and recreational opportunities and continually strives t enhance the quality and promote the value of recreation in the Nevada community. Cottey students volunteer for the "5th Quarter" program that provides middle school students an alternative after football games. For the past several years Cottey students participated in the Haunted Warehouse and as soccer coaches or referees.

A promotional, marketing organization for community events and over 350 member-based business organization. Cottey students volunteer to assist with special events sponsored by the Chamber to include the Fall Taste of Home Cooking School and the Merry Christmas Pageant.

A local veterinary clinic, which provides great volunteer opportunities for students interested in veterinary or biological fields. Tasks include helping with kennels and walking dogs.

Tri-County Genealogy
An organization dedicated to acquiring and placing resources for family history research in the public library and providing assistance in the preservation and maintenance of area records to encourage family research and enable better access.

W.A.G.S. (Wonderful Animals Giving Support)
A group sponsored through the University of Missouri Vernon County Extension Council. Their mission statement clearly defines their purpose "to educate, promote growth, and enhance healing to the spirit and body through the use of animal assisted activities and therapy." They do numerous activities throughout the year including fundraisers, dog shows, picnics, and workshops as well as the regular training of their members and animals.
