Prospective students

How much does it cost to attend Cottey?
The cost for the 2009-2010 academic year of $20,300 includes tuition, room and board, and all fees. The only additional expenses you will need to consider are books and personal expenses.

Can I get financial aid?
Yes! Amounts depend on financial need, talents, high school GPA, and ACT and/or SAT scores. To be considered for need-based aid, you will need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

How do I apply? Is there a fee?
Go to our admission page where you can apply online or e-mail us at Enrollment Management and we will mail you a paper application. Please note: There is a $40 application fee.

What is Nevada like?
Nevada is a community of about 9,000 people. It is a fairly self-sufficient town with grocery stores, restaurants, local shops, and a Wal-Mart. Additionally, there are several large cities and recreational areas within an hour and a half radius of the Cottey campus.

Are there any guys around?
Yes! Cottey is near several co-ed colleges and universities.

What if I have a specific major?
Let us know and we can send you a personalized academic program plan outlining specific courses you should plan to take. While at Cottey, you will work closely with an academic advisor to make sure you are on the right track to achieve a degree in your chosen major.

May I speak to a current Cottey student?
Yes! Please contact our office using our toll-free number or e-mail, and we will try to put you in contact with a current student.

When can I visit campus?
We have several different visitation programs for prospective students. Check our admission page for specific dates. If those dates do not work for you, contact our office 1-888-5-COTTEY to set up an individual visit.

What is the P.E.O. Sisterhood?
The P.E.O. Sisterhood is the organization that owns and supports Cottey College. It is an international Philanthropic Educational Organization of women who support several projects centered on education for women. Cottey is one of those projects.

Do I have to be a member of P.E.O. or be related to one to attend Cottey?
You do not have to have any P.E.O. affiliation to attend Cottey.

How can I order a transcript?
Mail a signed request including the name you attended under and the complete address where it needs to be mailed with a five dollar ($5) fee for an official copy or two dollar ($2) fee for an unofficial copy to:

During our normal business week, requests received by 10 a.m. Tuesday are processed Tuesday and those received by 10 a.m. Friday are processed Friday. The office does not accept phone, e-mail or faxed transcript requests. Questions may be directed to Academic Records; or to the mailing address listed above.

How do I change my mailing address?
You may update your mailing address and/or name by contacting the Office of Alumnae Relations at or 417-667-8181, ext. 2122.

Can I get addresses/phone numbers of my former classmates?
Alumnae may request information about former classmates by contacting the Office of Alumnae Relations at or 417-667-8181, ext. 2122.

How can I order a new Cottey sweatshirt?
Alumnae may order Cottey gear from the Bookstore page or by calling 417-667-8181, ext. 2154.

Where can I get information on Founder's Day Weekend?
Alumnae should look for Founder's Day Weekend information in the Viewpoint. The two most recent issues may be found online at the Viewpoint. For more details on Founder's, alumnae may contact the Office of Alumnae Relations at or 417-667-8181, ext. 2122.

Giving

How do I make a gift to Cottey College?
Checks should be made payable to Cottey College, and sent to the Office of Institutional Advancement at 1000 W. Austin, Nevada, MO 64772. Or, you may make a credit card gift on line through Cottey's secure giving page. If you are a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, you may choose to have your local chapter treasurer send your gift check to the state treasurer, who will then transmit it to Cottey.

Where does the College prefer my gift be applied?
Gifts for scholarships, the Library, and the Anniversary Fund are among the most beneficial. Alumnae may wish to support the current Cottey College Alumnae Association project. Does Cottey accept memorial gifts?
The Office of Institutional Advancement accepts honorariums and memorials, and will notify the honoree or next of kin as long as a name and address is provided.

How can I get a brick at Cottey?
Download, print, complete, and send the form found on the Giving page-along with a check for $100-to the Office of Institutional Advancement, Cottey College, 1000 W. Austin, Nevada, MO 64772. The opportunity to purchase bricks expires on December 31, 2009.

Is it possible to donate securities?
There are several different ways securities can be transferred to Cottey. For a brochure, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at (417) 667-8181, ext. 2120, or e-mail Institutional Advancement

How can I make Cottey part of my estate plan?
The College offers several planned giving vehicles, including annuities and charitable remainder trusts. The Stockard Society specially recognizes those individuals who make Cottey part of their estate plan. P.E.O.s

Are there materials I can use for my chapter meetings?
You can order materials by completing the Cottey College order form that is sent to the Cottey chairman each fall or by e-mailing or calling the Office of P.E.O. Relations. You can get program ideas from the brochures in the Cottey chairman mailing, THE P.E.O. RECORD articles, the alumnae newspaper that is sent to each chapter quarterly, and this Web site. Please order materials one month prior to date needed.

Is there a charge for materials?
There is no charge for the printed materials. There is a $10 purchase fee for the videos, table drop and photo display. Please order materials one month prior to date needed.

How can P.E.O. members help recruit students for the College?
1. Tell others about Cottey. Visit with your local high school guidance counselors and prospective students; represent the College at your local college fairs, or host a student gathering. Order materials for these events from the Office of P.E.O. Relations one month prior to the date needed.
2. Tell Cottey about prospective students. After you have visited with students about Cottey, send the names and addresses to the Office of Enrollment Management. The students will be added to the mailing list to receive further information about the College.
