COMETS LOSE TO STEPHENS IN COLUMBIA
The Cottey College Comets visited Columbia, Missouri, on Saturday, and lost a volleyball match to the Stephens College Stars in four games: 25-21, 23-25, 24-26, and 23-25.
Although the games were close, head coach Marla Kannady Foreman was not pleased with the outcome.
"We were in the lead in sets three and four, by sometimes four or five points," said Foreman. "I took my team into the locker room on Monday, and had
them view set three, in which we were in the lead by five points at six different parts of the set. We even led by six points in two different areas of
the set, but never finished it."
"At one point," Foreman continued, "Stephens made a 5-0 run on us at 23-18, which brought the set to 23-23, before Stephens missed their serve, and
allowed us to be in the advantage at 24-23, yet we allowed them to tie it up again, and Stephens went on to make another run of 3-0 to finish the set
24-26. The frustrating thing for me was that, except for the early points in set three, we led the entire set until Stephens finally took the lead from
us at 25-24."
Foreman was optimistic her team would learn from this setback.
"I am sure we have learned a great lesson through this match, and I believe that great things are going to happen in the future because of it."
Team leaders for the Comets were Ashleigh Bryson with 35 assists and two aces, Kaley Rogers with 18 kills, Anna Cruse with eight blocks, and Carmen Kintz with 28 digs.
The loss dropped the Comets to 4-2 on the year. Cottey will play in a tournament against Baptist Bible College and Central Bible College on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20, in
Springfield, Missouri. The next home match for the Comets will be on Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27 in a quad match against regional opponents.
