COMETS LOSE FINAL MATCH OF REGULAR SEASON

The Cottey College Comets lost their final volleyball match of the regular season Friday night. Facing off against the Ft. Scott Community College Greyhounds on the road, the Comets fell in four games 13-25, 22-25, 25-18, and 18-25.

There's usually little good to say about a loss, but head coach Marla Kannady Foreman found one bright spot.

"I was real glad to see us end our season with getting at least one good win off of a good opponent, if only for one game."

Cottey seemed unprepared for game one, but came back strong, falling just short in game two. In game three, however, the Comets put together a complete game plan and won fairly convincingly.

The Comets' loss in game two was indicative of how the season went this year. In 59 games, Cottey scored 20 points or more 22 times. With a couple of breaks or better play here and there, those could have been wins which would have greatly affected the Comets' won-loss record on this season. Despite that, Foreman does not regret the experience of this season.

"If someone were to ask me if I regret this year, or if I was happy for the regular season to be over, I think they would be surprised by my answer, which would be NO," said Foreman. "How many coaches could say that they had a whole roster of players that would play with heart, even through all the seasons practices? My players didn't complain about things. They just got in there and worked hard to get better, and I feel like we did get better. Unfortunately, the opponents we played got better as well."

Team leaders for the Comets on Friday were Andrea Hass with seven aces and five blocks, Natalie Larsen with 23 assists, Janelle Crowell with nine kills, and Emily Moore with 14 digs.

The loss dropped the Comets' regular season record to 1-18. The Comets will play in the Region XVI postseason tournament on Friday, November 6, in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Their opponent has not been announced as of yet.
