VOLLEYBALL COMETS LOSE IN POSTSEASON
The Cottey College Comets saw their volleyball season come to an end quickly in the Region XVI/District postseason tournament. They were defeated in the first round by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College 16-25, 19-25, and 16-25.
"We played with eight players, as Amanda Taylor was out due to a class obligation," said head coach Marla Kannady Foreman. "Even without her height included in the match, the team worked hard to gain the points that they did against NEO. We didn't give it to them easily. In the start of the third game, we were in a slight lead at the beginning."
In the end, however, NEO's deeper bench and height advantage wore down the Comets.
Team leaders for the Comets were Chrissy Echeverria with two aces and seven kills, Natalie Larsen with 14 assists, and Emily Moore with 12 digs.
Kailey Kelly received First Team All-Region honors, and Emily Moore received Second Team All-Region honors. Six Comet players were nominated by coach Foreman, but the coaches aren't allowed to vote on their own players for the final selection. There are 10 first team honors, and anyone receiving at least one vote after the top 10, receives second team honors. Usually, the coaches are looking for overall statistical leaders or looking at a particular position that was played well throughout the season by someone when making their choices for the awards.
The loss left the Comets with a final record of 1-19 on the season.
