The Image Tree

Student WriterCottey College’s Image Tree is a student literary magazine produced during the spring semester. The Image Tree editors are always Cottey students who develop the publication with the assistance of an English faculty member and Sigma Kappa Delta, Cottey College’s English honor society.

The publication recognizes creative writing by Cottey students. These writings may be written for an academic course; for the pleasure of creating poetry, fiction or literary nonfiction; or specifically for submission to The Image Tree.

Each spring, The Image Tree editors put out a call for submissions. Students are encourage to share their writing, as well as photographs, sketches or digital art with the Cottey community. Items for publication are selected based on quality and space available. The final result is a compilation of student voices writing on or documenting the events, experiences and issues important to them.

Student editors gain critical skills in selection, editing and proofing material for inclusion in the magazine. They also design and layout the publication using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

The magazine is sold and distributed to the Cottey community. For more information about The Image Tree, contact Dr. Michael Emery, memery@cottey.edu.
