Dr. Trisha Stubblefield

Dr. Trisha StubblefieldDr. Trisha Stubblefield, assistant professor of English, received her B.A. and B.M. from Converse College, South Carolina, and her M.A. and Ph.D. (2001) from the University of South Carolina. Her graduate work focused on twentieth-century American literature, and her dissertation examined "The Brat Pack," a group of 1980s novelists of manners that includes Tama Janowitz, Jay McInerney, and Bret Easton Ellis. In addition, Dr. Stubblefield's research interests include women writers, popular culture, and composition/rhetoric.

She teaches composition, Women and Literature, Poetry, and other literature courses. Dr. Stubblefield is the sponsor of Cottey College's Amnesty International Chapter and Feminist Majority Foundation Chapter, and she is the co-sponsor of the Cottey College English honor society.

It was Dr. Stubblefield who provided key leadership in establishing the now annual "Love Your Body Day" event held in conjunction with the National Organization for Women's educational campaign of the same name. Currently, she is the chair of the Women's Studies Interest Group and led the effort to institute an Introduction to Women's Studies course at Cottey College.

Prior to coming to Cottey, she taught English Composition at the University of South Carolina and Midlands Technical College in Columbia, S.C. She has also taught composition for Crowder College, Neosho, Mo. In the area of women's studies, Dr. Stubblefield has instructed Women in Culture and Women in Society for the University of South Carolina.

In 2000-2001, she was a professional communications center consultant for the University of South Carolina's College of Engineering. Gateway Engineering Education Coalition published her manual, Mentoring Undergraduate Engineering Students: A Manual for Teaching Assistants, in July 2002.
