Dr. Angela Firkus
Associate
Professor of History
Dr. Angela Firkus holds the Ph.D. from Purdue University. She teaches both United States history and
Asian history courses. These include the
Introduction to Historical Methods
two-semester survey class in U.S.
history, the history of women in the
U.S., the history of the American West,
Native American history, and Asian
civilizations.
Dr. Firkus also coordinates the Certificate in
Public History program. Students interested in
presenting history to a public audience can prepare
to be a writer, museum director, documentary film
maker, or one of many other careers by completing
this 21 credit program. As part of this
program, Dr. Firkus also supervises internships wit
the local history museum and works with the students
on individual projects of interest to them.
Recently she helped a student edit a travel journal
from 1882.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Firkus remains active in the history profession. She
is doing research and writing about the history of
the American West and attends conferences in her
field. She is also a member of the American
Historical Association, and the Organization of American Historians.
