Mr. Steve Reed

Mr. Steve ReedSteve Reed, director of public information for Cottey College, advises the college yearbook, the Retrospect. He has served as the yearbook adviser for 12 years.

Reed is an award-winning designer and writer, having been recognized for his work by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VI, and the Admissions Marketing Report. As part of his "day job," he is responsible for virtually everything seen by the public that comes from the College. He creates publications, is the College's Webmaster, serves as the publicity officer for Cottey, does sports information, writes articles for internal and external publications, does most of the "day-to-day" photography of the College, and is in charge of area advertising.

Prior to his arrival at Cottey, Reed served as the corporate communications specialist for Farm & Home Savings, and before that was a freelance writer and photographer for the Springfield (MO) News-Leader where he wrote and designed special advertising supplements. He also taught high school English and journalism for five years.

With his background and experience, Reed shares the skills he's learned by teaching good photographic and design techniques in the yearbook practicum. Students gain experience with some of the same software that professional designers use, such as InDesign CS and Photoshop CS.

Reed has a Bachelor of Arts in English and religion from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, which he received in 1980, and a lifetime teaching certificate in secondary education from the State of Missouri which was received in 1982.

In addition to his work with the yearbook, Reed also enjoys occasional work with the Cottey theatre department and serves as the liaison between Cottey's Rotaract Club and the Nevada Rotary Club.
