Cottey student with The Spectrum, the award-winning campus newspaper.A Voice in Discussing Ideas and Shaping Policy.
The new Cottey College Voice for Women – a new program in Mass Communication – comes at an important time for women as their voices are increasingly important in discussing ideas and shaping policy for today’s world.

Exciting Possibilities – And Opportunities.
The demand for media practitioners – reporters and editors, advertising and public relations managers – is high in today’s rapidly expanding media environment. Technologically savvy professional communicators who understand how to target strategic messages are needed for a wide range of positions – from newspapers and online publications to corporations and not-for-profit organizations.

Highest Educational and Professional Standards.
Cottey College’s Mass Communication courses combine a broad knowledge base with hands-on opportunities to develop the writing and thinking skills critical to relevant and responsible communication. And the new program is based on the two most respected sets of standards in communication – guidelines for accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and Certification in Education for Public Relations (CEPR) from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Accreditation and certification apply only to four-year programs, but because the Cottey College Mass Communication curriculum is designed to be in accord with the highest educational and professional standards, students from Cottey College should be able to transfer seamlessly into nearly every four-year communication degree program in the world.

Curricular and Experiential Learning.
An innovative MCM feature is the series of Mass Communication Special Topics courses that are presented as weekend seminars by leading professionals and educators brought to campus to cover a wide range of media issues and career specializations. Strong writing skills are developed through coursework and such experiential learning opportunities as working on the award-winning campus newspaper, The Spectrum. Graduates will be equipped with a solid knowledge base and hands-on skills to pursue a four-year degree anywhere in the world and to excel in the ever-changing global media environment.

An Empowered Voice for Women.
The new Cottey College Mass Communication program empowers the next generation of leaders with a strong voice – a Voice for Women.
