Professor Michel Ashmore
Michel Ashmore, B.M., M.M., associate professor of music.
Selected Biography
At seventeen, Michel Ashmore made his orchestral debut with the Oklahoma City Symphony. A student of Armand Basile at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, he was twice the recipient of the Max Landow Award and received the degree Bachelor of Music with Distinction. He earned his Master of Music degree at the University of Oklahoma, where his secondary emphases were chamber music and music literature As a student of Lois Gauger, he won the University's first concerto competition and was elected to Pi Kappa Lambda.
An active recitalist and chamber musician, he has also performed with the orchestras of Oklahoma City; Cherokee, Iowa; Sherman, Texas; the University of Oklahoma; and the Northland Symphony of Kansas City. He performed in the International Congress of Spanish Music in Santiago de Compostella, Spain, and has frequently been accepted for and attended Carnegie Hall Professional Training Workshops, most recently the 2004 Leon Fleisher workshop on the late Schubert sonatas.
Before coming to Cottey, he served on the faculties of the Eastman School Preparatory Department, the University of Oklahoma, the University of South Dakota, and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. After nine seasons spent lecturing and performing under the auspices of the Educational Alliance of New York City, Ashmore served for six years as the Resident Pianist at the Silver Bay Association on Lake George in upstate New York. While at Silver Bay, he appeared as a regular guest at the Sembrich Opera Museum and can be heard on the CD produced by the Association during his tenure.
