Department of Music Facilities

The music facilities at Cottey provide excellent support for all aspects of the program. The music facilities are located in historic Main Hall and include a large choral and instrumental practice area, music studios, faculty teaching studios, a MIDI laboratory, keyboard laboratory, individual practice rooms and a study area. The Cottey Chapel is used as an organ studio and for organ and ensemble performances. The Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts houses the two primary performance spaces, the Auditorium and the Missouri Recital Hall. Audiovisual resources, books, recordings, and scores are located in the Blanche Skiff Ross Memorial Library.

The Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the ArtsThe Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts, which opened February 1990, houses two performance spaces and the P.E.O. Foundation Art Gallery. All campus performances and gallery exhibits are open to the public and are free to Cottey College students and employees. The College brings performers and speakers to the campus through its Cottey Lecturers and Artists Super Series (CLASS). Recent events sponsored by CLASS have included the Missouri State Ballet, Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, The Kansas City Symphony, John Amos in Halley's Comet, and Tin Roof Tango. The Cottey College Faculty Artist Series gives the campus and surrounding communities the opportunity to see our talented and professionally active faculty perform. The Fine Arts Division affords numerous performance opportunities to its students. The Chamber Music Ensemble, Cottey Pops and Chamber Singers, as well as individual graduating sophomore music recitals are given in the Recital Hall. The theatre department presents six productions each year in the Auditorium. The dance department in addition to its touring and informal performances in Hinkhouse Gymnasium, presents a spring concert in the Auditorium.

The Center for the Arts AuditoriumThe Center for the Arts Auditorium seats 495 audience members. The stage measures 40 X 40 feet with ample wing space at either side. The stage utilizes a modern counterweight fly system. Adjoining the stage is a spacious, well-equipped scene and costume shop with storage space and modern dressing rooms. Stage lighting is controlled by a 60-channel, computerized, lighting board with manual override. The sound system is controlled by a large mixing panel and utilizes a compact disc player, two cassette decks, two reel-to-reel tape players, and a turntable for sound playback. It will also handle sound reinforcement through a battery of microphones integrated with clusters of sophisticated speakers for public address and performance

The Missouri Recital Hall seats 150 audience members with a stage space of 32 X 30. The Center for the Arts houses a nine-foot Steinway grand and an Allen electronic organ which can be used in both performance spaces. The Recital Hall is used for music performances, speeches, award presentations, and symposia. The Humanity Division's Foreign Film Series is shown in the Recital Hall.
