Music Department Opportunities

Special Opportunities

  • Mu Sigma, the honorary music association, showcases musical talent in their student directed performances.
  • On occasion, the vocal department takes selected students to participate in vocal auditions sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
  • Faculty in the department of music offer opportunities for students to accompany them to off-campus performances.

Scholarships
To apply for a scholarship in music, the applicant should audition in person or submit an audio tape of a performance of a work or works from the standard classical literature. Students may audition in the following areas: brass (trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba), organ, piano, strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass), voice, woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon). A high-quality recording will enable the music department to best evaluate your performance.
On-campus auditions are scheduled for those applicants not applying by mail. To arrange an on-campus audition, please call the Office of Enrollment Management at 1-888-5COTTEY. Plan to audition between 9:00 a.m. and noon that day; each audition will last 30 minutes. If you would like the College to provide an accompanist, you must send copies of your music to the College three weeks before the audition. No photocopies of music will be allowed during the actual audition.
