Dr. Julie Tietz

Dr. Julie TietzDr. Julie Tietz received her B.A. in psychology from Rice University, where she was a charter member of Rice’s chapter of Psi Chi, the honor society in psychology at 4-year institutions. She received her M.A. (1995) in Experimental Psychology and her Ph.D. (1998) in Developmental Psychology from Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech, Dr. Tietz conducted research in two developmental psychology laboratories. In one laboratory, she examined frontal lobe function in children with diabetes. In the other, she participated in studies examining conflict resolution and attachment in families and adolescent friendships. Her dissertation topic combined her interests in cognitive and social development by examining play preferences and their role in the development of gender segregation in preschoolers.

Dr. Tietz’s first teaching position after graduation was at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg in Pennsylvania, where she continued her research on play preferences. In 2001, Tietz joined the faculty at Cottey College in the Department of Psychology. She is a member of the following professional organizations: the Southwestern Psychological Association, the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, the Society for Research on Adolescence and APA Division 35, Psychology of Women. In addition to teaching and advising, Dr. Tietz serves as co-sponsor for the Cottey chapter of Psi Beta.
