“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” — Winston Churchill

This presents everchanging needs which, in turn, provide ways you can make a difference. Please take a moment to explore some of the opportunities available.

General Gifts
There are many ways an individual or chapter can contribute to Cottey, some of which are listed below.

Undesignated Gifts
Undesignated gifts are always welcome. These allow the College to apply the money where it is most needed.

Library Gifts
The Blanche Skiff Ross Memorial Library is the academic core of the College. It serves not only the students, but the faculty, staff, and community as well. In order to maintain and support a strong academic program, the Library needs gifts to help build its acquisitions.

Students gather outside of the Arts CenterHaidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts
Named seats are still available in the Auditorium and Missouri Recital Hall of the Center for the Arts. A gift of $1,000 enables a P.E.O. chapter or an individual to name a seat. Each seat has a small brass plaque mounted on the arm allowing for three lines of inscription of 30 letters and spaces per line.

Equipment
The College continually updates academic program equipment and technology such as computers, instructional aids, and science equipment as well as fitness and recreational apparatus. People interested in funding specific equipment should contact the College.

BRICKS ARE BACK!

Donated Bricks make up the walkway outside the Academic Center By popular request, Cottey College has reopened the purchase of personalized bricks, but only for a limited time. For a gift of $100, you can personalize a brick for yourself, friends, relatives or anyone you want to remember, honor or memorialize.

The sale of personalized bricks was extremely popular during the campaign for the Rubie Burton Academic Center. Even after that campaign had reached a successful conclusion, Cottey's Office of Institutional Advancement continued to receive orders for bricks.

Because of the demand, Cottey has more bricks available. If you would like to purchase a brick to be placed in the patio outside the Blanche Skiff Ross Memorial Library, you will need to act before December 31, 2009. Brick orders will not be accepted after that date.

To order a “Cottey Brick” you may either download an order form or request one from the Office of Institutional Advancement. To request a copy through the mail, contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 1000 W. Austin, Nevada, MO 64772, call 417-667-8181, ext. 2120, or by e-mail. Proceeds go toward the Rubie Burton Academic Center equipment and technology endowment.

Endowed Funds
Endowed funds allow the College to invest the principal and use the interest income to support programs.

Named Endowed Funds
A named endowed fund can be established with a minimum gift of $10,000. There are numerous options available including (but not limited to):

  • library acquisition fund;
  • equipment fund;
  • cultural fund;
  • lecture fund;
  • scholarship fund.

General Endowed Funds
Cottey also has several general endowed funds which can be added to with gifts.

  • General Endowed Scholarship Fund;
  • Alumnae Library Acquisition Fund;
  • Ross Library Acquisition Fund;
  • General Endowed Cultural Fund.

Anniversary Fund (General Endowment)
The College's commitment to a solid financial investment base through a general endowment continues to be a top priority. The Anniversary Fund provides annual income earnings which support the College's annual operating budget and allow the College to keep tuition and costs affordable. A gift to the College's Anniversary Fund will live on in perpetuity and be the most beneficial gift to the College.

Estate and Tax Planning
There are many ways to give to Cottey College. In addition to outright gifts of cash, individuals can contribute appreciated securities, real estate, tangible personal property and life insurance. Gifts can be made through a will, revocable living trust, life insurance and retirement plans. Some gifts provide lifetime income through charitable remainder trusts and gift annuities. Cottey College does not render legal or tax advice. Your attorney, accountant or other professional advisor should be consulted for specific assistance.
