International COTTEY Day  March 27

In March 2005, Cottey College, P.E.O.s and alumnae everywhere celebrated the first ever International COTTEY Day, celebrating the life and memory of Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard, the founder of Cottey College.  This year, plan to celebrate International COTTEY Day on March 27, Virginia Alice Cottey's birthday.  Imagine the recognition from not only wearing a Cottey promotional item, but explaining what Cottey College is.  This is a fantastic way to help get the word out to prospective students that Cottey College is not only a great institution, but there is a legion of women who support the goals and ideals of women's education.

P.E.O. Visit Day

Our next P.E.O. Visit Day is scheduled for October 25, 2008.  Use this form to register. P.E.O. visit days are a great way to see the Cottey campus and meet other sisters. Activities include campus tours, meeting students, experiencing the great Cottey food, and hearing from the President, Dr. Judy Rogers. (To see the 2007 P.E.O. Visit Day schedule, click here.)

Cottey celebrated our first P.E.O. Visit Day on Saturday, October 22, 2005.  Over 100 P.E.O.s from Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma visited campus.  More than half of the visitors had never been to the Cottey campus before!

P.E.O. Seminar

The biennial Cottey College Seminar is scheduled on the Cottey campus August, 2008.  The Seminar is an educational opportunity for delegates to learn more about the College so that they can educate other P.E.O.s and prospective students.  The College and the Executive Board of the P.E.O. Sisterhood encourages states to send delegates who are near the beginning of their service on the state board so that they can become knowledgeable about Cottey and share information as they visit with chapters.

The mission of the Cottey College P.E.O. Seminar is to educate leaders of the P.E.O. Sisterhood about the College.  Special focus is given to:

  • plans for the recruitment of students by P.E.O.s;
  • admission and financial aid processes;
  • academic and student life programs; and
  • support for future plans of the College.

Registration forms will be mailed to the 1st Vice President.

Founder's Day Weekend  Our Founder, Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard.

For alumnae, the BIG event is, of course, Founder's Day Weekend.  It is one of the oldest traditions at Cottey College and began as a celebration of Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard's birthday--March 27--during the very first academic year, 1884-1885. In the early years, it was more like a birthday party, complete with cake and presents. It is this spirit of giving and remembrance that brings alumnae back to commemorate their reunions.

Please plan to join us for Founder's Day. It's a wonderful way to revisit your memories. Share them with your classmates. Catch up on the significant events in their lives. We are sure you will delight in the updates, improvements, and additions to the buildings on campus and to the curriculum available to the students. Seeing today's students will take you back to your days, give you a glimpse of changes in student life, and infuse you with hope for the future.

The highlights of the weekend schedule include a Celebration of Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard's life work, an interactive class activity, the Homecoming Celebration, the Presentation Luncheon, Supper and Sing, and fireworks. Bring your spirit of giving and consider a contribution to our alumnae projects, including Cottey's unrestricted funds. We want to see an increase in alumnae giving and it always starts with Founder's Day.
