Beginning American Genealogy
Helen Lodge

If you have ever wanted to learn how to research your American roots, then this is the course for you! This lecture course will cover the U.S. Census, courthouse records, (including vital records, will, probate and land records) military, church and cemetery sources. Other topics will include how to begin, charting and numbering systems, and a brief overview of the use of computers in genealogical research.

Drawing the Figure
Rand Smith

Study and exercise in line, light, anatomy, proportion and foreshortening. We will be working from a model. A great opportunity to learn something new or simply brush up on observational skills.

French Language & Culture
Catherine Campbell

Discover the language and culture of France through the eyes of a tourist. You will learn important tour guidebook phrases, listen to French music, view slides, and discuss the history of this beautiful culture.

Great Movies You've Never Heard Of
Michael Denison

Neglected and under publicized masterpieces of film art; films with intelligent dialogues, character development, relevant theme and meaning, and high emotional content. (This class will show different films than the afternoon version.)

Life Issues in Retirement-- Will you outlive your money and other late life issues?
Gary Lunkenheimer

Course will examine many issues one faces later in life. Specifically, will you outlive your money? The effects of inflation on one's retirement income and savings. Other issues to be examined include: estate planing-- dividing assets, leaving bequests, wills and trusts, living wills, and funeral planning. Course will use professionals in a variety of fields to examine such late life issues as well as one's own personal experiences.

Mary Baker Eddy: American Humanist
Inez Byer and Michael Emery

Mary Baker Eddy is one of the most influential women in American history. This class will consider her legacy, philosophy, influence, and life.

Southern Women Writers
Melinda Rhodes & Mary Kitterman

Many of the twentieth centuries's finest writers of short stories were women who were born and raised in the South; peopled with powerful women characters, the stories by these writers are intimately connected with locale and a spirit of place. In this class, we will study stories by Eudora Welty, Carson McCullers, Flannery O'Connor, Katherine Anne Porter, Zora Neale Hurston, Maya Angelou, and Alice Walker, among others, and investigate the ways in which Southern culture has fostered these creative women and their imaginations.

Swimming for the NON Swimmer
Terry Burger

This course is specifically for the student who is afraid of the water. Emphasis is on developing a comfort level in, on or around water. Half of the class time each day is spent watching videos; half of the time is in the water.

Watercolor- Landscape Elements
Linda Rogers

Learn to paint the individual elements of a landscape (skies, clouds, distant hills and mountains, middle ground trees and rocks, foreground trees, rocks and water) in watercolor. Paint textures to render these elements. Also, a little color theory to tie it all together.

Astronomy: What is New in the Oldest Physical Science?
Sinan Ozkal

A review of basics of astronomy, from ancient astronomy and planets to stars and galaxies. Emphasis is on topics that were in the news recently, such as "transit of Mercury" and "Is Pluto a planet?" Daily activities will include learning to use a star chart, a planisphere, an astronomical almanac and celestial globe.

The Comedies of Barbara Stanwyck
Michael Emery

This course will explore Stanwyck's work as a comedienne. The films we will see are The Bride Walks Out, The Mad Miss Manton, The Lady Eve, and Ball of Fire.

Mediterranean Cooking
Michael Richardson

We will discuss the cuisines of and prepare recipes of several countries that border the Mediterranean Sea, including Italy, France, Greece, Israel, and Spain. With full class participation, we will prepare and sample recipes from these countries. (This class will run from 2-4:30 p.m.)

Millionaire Women: Who are they? Is it too late to become one?
Gary Lunkenheimer

This abbreviated financial course will explore the myths and realities of millionaires focusing especially on women. It will examine and discuss writing about the wealthy and other personally relevant financial issues including: is it possible to become affluent, what does it mean to be affluent, financial goal setting, and shopping habits of the rich. (Men are welcome to attend.)

More neglected masterpieces of film art... films that will affect you emotionally and challenge you intellectually. (This class will show different films than the morning version.)

Off-Loom Bead Weaving
Linda Rogers

Learn to create bead fabric without a loom. Use the peyote stitch and brick stitch for bracelets and the circular peyote stitch to create a rope-look piece.

Shakespeare's Merry War
Glenn Rogers

Shakespeare's romantic comedies revolve around the battle between the sexes, which he describes as a "merry war" and "a skirmish of wit." These contests are unequal; the ladies easily win. This summer we shall watch and discuss two of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies: Much Ado About Nothing and Twelfth Night. Be assured that even after disguise, deceit, desertion at the alter, the confusion of twins, and various lovers' quarrels, all will end well.

Stroke Technique and Improvement
Terry Burger

For the swimmers who want to improve their technique in the water. Students will be videotaped and their strokes critiqued. Approximately half the time will be in the water and half the time watching videos.

The Tough Stuff (Feet, hands, and heads)

Boot camp for artists interested in improving their drawing skills. Foreshortening and understanding anatomy.

Beginning Yoga
Karen Polon

This class will include breathing, stretching, and relaxation practices used in yoga. Students will participate at their own level each day but should be in good general health to enjoy this course.

Aquacise
Terry Burger

Water exercise performed vertically in the water. A combination of stretching, toning, some dance, calisthenics, and aerobic moves performed in water.

4:30-5:30 p.m.

Fitness Walking
Karen Polon

This class is geared towards active individuals who already participate in a regular exercise program. Participants will be able to walk at their own level each day in either an outdoor or indoor environment.
