The Comets finished last season with an overall record of 15-6. They were the top-ranked team in Region XVI before falling in an upset in the semifinal match of the postseason tournament. In the NJCAA Division II poll the week of February 11, the Comets were ranked 20th in the nation, the first time they have been ranked in a national poll. The final record was the highest winning percentage in school history (.714), and earned the Comets two other team honors, the top seed in the tournament along with their first national ranking. Second-year players Jessica Roberts and Brittany Smith were named to the All-Region First Team, and first-year players Alex Noble and Amanda Sanders were named to the All-Region Second Team.

Head coach Dave Ketterman’s perspective on the 2009-10 campaign is one of optimism. “We have strengthened our schedule with the addition of games against teams from the Kansas Jayhawk Conference, two nationally-ranked Division II opponents in Redlands Community College and LSU- Eunice, along with our competitive Region XVI schedule. Our current squad includes the return of two all-region selections in Alex Noble and Amanda Sanders, four second-year transfers, and five new freshmen. We have the talent to compete each and every night, and our goal is to be playing the best that we can be in February. I hope we can play an up-tempo and entertaining style of play that all our fans will enjoy.”
