Where the Food Matches the Excellence of the Campus

Chef Michael Richardson

Not all colleges tout their food service departments as proudly as Cottey does. But our alumnae say they miss "Cottey's wonderful people and the great food" all in the same breath. The reason for all that praise? Food Service Director and professional chef Michael Richardson who brings to Cottey several years of experience as a restaurant chef. Not only is he a great chef, he and his staff are responsive to student opinions and preferences. They really listen to what students want and need, like more vegan and vegetarian options. And they're willing to try out just about any recipe you bring in!

Beyond the food, students say that dining room staff "really care about us." That's why they'll work a little harder to make a suite's Centennial Dinner delicious and memorable. You'll find many of your favorite holiday dishes served at Cottey holiday gatherings, and the dining room staff makes every Sunday brunch a semi-formal feast.
For many of our students, the food service fare is an unexpected highlight. When you visit campus, you'll taste the difference too.
Included with your room and board are 20 meals each week--Monday breakfast through Sunday lunch. There are plenty of opportunities for dinner on Sunday evening, however. Each suite is equipped with a kitchenette, and often a suite will use Sunday evening to prepare a "suite feed." Or maybe you and a couple of suitemates will want to grab a bite at the Chellie Club coffeehouse in the lower level of Hinkhouse Center.
Centennial Dinner
A definite highlight of your suite's year together will be sharing a special dinner in Raney Dining Room's stately Centennial Room. Once a year, each suite is treated to a formal, gourmet meal courtesy of chef Michael Richardson and the dining room staff. You and your suitemates can create your own menu and invite two special guests--often professors or residence hall housekeepers.
Chellie Club
The Chellie Club has a snack bar serving typical grill food plus lattes, Italian ices, and some of the best shakes around. Plus there are lots of comfy couches for lounging and visiting, pool and ping pong tables, and often entertainment by student performers.
