Whether it's a late-night serenade or seeing second-year students at Step Sing in their "Duck Jackets," you'll quickly catch on that traditions are a big part of Cottey campus life. Cottey traditions not only strengthen the bonds of our campus community, they also connect us to our rich and memorable history. Each student determines the extent she wishes to participate in student traditions, and participation is entirely voluntary. Here are some formal and informal traditions you'll enjoy at Cottey . . . but remember, many of our hallowed traditions will unfold throughout the year, surprising and delighting you.
Signing of the Cottey Book - to begin the school year, new students have signed the Cottey Book since 1935.
Hanging of the Greens - special holiday activities that include creating evergreen wreaths, an interfaith Chapel service, caroling, and a formal dinner followed by a dance.
Founder's Day - welcoming our alumnae back to campus.
Pass Downs - suitemates passing on treasures from previous generations of members of your suite.
Campus Work Day - held in the spring to revitalize campus.
Capping - a ceremony the evening before Commencement.
Step Sing - a memorable musical community gathering.
Telling tales of Vera - the ghost of Rosemary Hall.
