Welcome to day two of our Vacation College adventure. The first day of classes with new teachers and new classmates from around the country. Gee, it really is sort of like being a Cottey student, isn't it?
Class members in the Watercolor I class gather around Linda Rogers as she demonstrates proper technique for painting a flower petal. Personally, your photographer will stick with using a camera. With a camera, he doesn't have to have any particular art skills, and he doesn't spill paint water on his shirt. Of course, to protect against the potential for spills, he could go for a really cool art smock. (Actually, we really like the word "smock" and were just trying to figure out how to work it into the web pages.)
"It was a dark and stormy night...." That's how Snoopy always begins his stories. Instructor Becky Kiel isn't sure that's the best approach as she's told her writers to tell their story in their own words. Here's how your photographer would tell his story: "If you carry a camera around to enough classes, you will eventually find one with snacks." Too bad they don't allow food in the Library. Of course, there's always the Mediterranean Cooking class later in the week!
Oh, that Helen Lodge, getting everyone into the act in her class on British Royalty. At first, we weren't sure if we'd wandered into a Burger King training room, or if everyone had been eating Imperial Margarine. (Remember those commercials?) Well, it was neither. Helen just wanted to have some fun with the photographer when he came around. We would like to remind all the class members of the quote from from Henry IV, Part II, where King Henry observes, "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown." (Dr. Glenn Rogers would be so proud of us for knowing that one!)
There was a short break after dinner before the next round of food, but Tracy made you work for it. Dessert was held at the President's House at 738 W. Cherry, and a number of participants chose to walk the three blocks from campus. The weather was lovely, the food was as good as always, and folks got to say "Hi" to Dr. Judy Rogers. Did you know that earlier in the day, Dr. Rogers received her plaque for five years of service? Next time you see her, tell her congratulations on five successful years!
A surprise visitor from the neighborhood came calling while participants were standing in line at the President's House. This adorable kitty was quite popular with the folks in line. In fact, we're pretty sure that only Dr. Rogers was photographed more often than the cat.
