Defining Cottey's Future

defining Cottey's Future

The time for “clearer vision, larger service, and concentrated effort” has come.

Our leaders, our board, and our faculty—who have always embodied the ambitious spirit of Mrs. Stockard—are committed and prepared to enrich and enhance the Cottey experience and make it available to more young women. Their well-informed decisions have advanced the College and women’s education in response to an ever-changing world and the evolving needs of students.

In 2005, a planning committee of faculty, staff, and students worked together to envision the College’s future and chart a course for both short-term and long-term success. This collaborative effort resulted in two important documents, both of which are subtitled Building a Model for Women’s Education: the Cottey College Strategic Plan and the Cottey College Master Plan. The plans are living documents, designed to inspire and motivate for the sake of the amazing young women who attend Cottey today and those who will be part of Cottey and, perhaps, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, tomorrow. Rather than including platitudes and passive goals, the strategic and master plans define the specific actions required to realize our vision:

“Cottey College will be known as a model liberal arts college for women’s education, providing opportunities to develop scholarship and creativity and to exercise responsibility, initiative, and leadership.”

Our Strategic Plan establishes seven goals for creating the nationally recognized learning, living, and leadership environment that will attract new students. These goals range from establishing an unsurpassed women’s leadership program to providing distinctive educational opportunities. They also state the clear need to engage P.E.O.s, alumnae, friends, and others to support Cottey through recruitment, marketing, and fundraising.

Our Campus Master Plan projects the infrastructure required to support a student body of 500—their living and social needs as well as academic and athletic needs—and determines a course of action for renovating and building facilities to meet these needs.

Both plans are the impetus for launching A Defining Moment: The Campaign for Cottey College, which will help the College achieve important milestones on its journey toward being a model for women’s leadership and education.
