1980s

Sheila (Henninger) Fields ‘86 had a boy on May 9, 2007. She and her husband, Todd are very happy, as this has been a long time in coming. Laura Archazki-Pacter ‘92 and her daughtersLaura Archazki-Pacter ‘92 and husband Greg Pacter are very excited to announce the birth of their twin girls who were born early, very early, but who are doing well! Catherine Anna Pacter and Allison Joy Pacter came into the world on November 21, 2006, (their due date was February 4, so they are very lucky the twins are okay). After many months in the N.I.C.U. the girls are finally home. Big sister Becky is thrilled, and maybe the twins will be roomies when they enter Cottey in 2025. “Thank Heaven for Little Girls!”

Sara (Nicholas) Porras ‘94 just wanted her Cal-Remy and other P.E.O. Hall friends to know that she just had her third child, her third son, Jack Owen Porras. He was born April 25, 2007, 8 lbs., 2 oz., and 20.5 inches. Though now buried in laundry, she is enjoying her newest family member in sunny Arizona where she continues to be (blessed by being) a stay-at-home mom. Jack’s twin three-year-old big brothers are crazy about him (so far) and are great helpers! Alaina Hale Denike ‘94 and her husband ChrisAlaina (Hale) Denike ‘94 was married to Chris Denike on September 2, 2006, at her family home in Brighton, Colorado. Alaina and Chris celebrated with family and friends, including Cottey buds Kim Jerdee ‘95 and Aleea Perry ‘94. Following her Cottey graduation, Alaina finished her B.A. at the University of Colorado and her M.A. at Chapman University. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist. Chris is also a CU grad and works as a Software Engineer for Great West Life. Following the wedding, Chris and Alaina went to Hawaii for a wonderful honeymoon and when they returned to Colorado Alaina moved to Chris’s house in Parker, Colorado. Alaina and Chris met on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend, a match made in heaven! Alaina would love to hear from classmates at alainahale@aol.com.

Erika (Johnson) Arrivee ‘98 and her familyErika (Johnson) Arrivee ‘98 and her husband Eric want to announce the birth of Brooke Nicole.  She was born on September 2, 2006, and weighed 9 lbs., 6 oz.  She is a very sweet baby, and Tyler enjoys being a big brother (most of the time!). They still live in Olympia, Washington, where Eric works at an athletic club and is a volunteer firefighter, and Erika is a pharmacist for Walgreens.

Aidan Thomas and his brother DJ UlwickAimee (Sellers) Ulwick ‘98 and husband Donnie would like to announce the birth of their second son, Aidan Thomas Ulwick on January 18, 2007. He weighed in at 7 lbs., 7 oz., and was 20 1/2 inches long. Aidan was welcomed home by brother Donald John (DJ) and dogs Apollo and Drago. Aimee is a portfolio accountant for AEW Capital Management in Boston, Massachusetts, and would love to hear from friends at aulwick@comcast.net.

Adria (Woudstra) van den Berg ‘99 and her wedding partyAdria (Woudstra) van den Berg ‘99 married Nathan Evan van den Berg on April 8, 2007. The ceremony and reception were held at Lodge on the Desert in Tucson, Arizona. Katie (Zlamalova) Balconi ‘97, and Wlanvi Zinsou ‘99 were among the bridesmaids. Adria, fine art graduate from the University of Arizona, continues to make art while working in human resources for a non-profit. Nathan is FAA certified as an airframe and powerplant mechanic working in the avionics division for Bombardier at the Tucson International Airport. Adria can be reached at adriatica@gmail.com.

2000s

Sarah (Sundquist) Sedlacek, ‘01 sends us a picture of her two wonderful kids. Luke Owen Sedlacek will be two in June of this year and Charlotte Liberty Sedlacek is 5 months on the 26th.

KT and her husband Stevan AlcornKatharyn Shipman ‘02 and Stevan Alcorn were married on June 3, 2006, at John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Katharyn is an intake coordinator for Family and Children’s Services in Tulsa and Stevan is a shipping and logistics coordinator in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Katharyn is orginally from Claremore, Oklahoma, and Stevan is orginally from Eugene, Oregon, and they now reside in Tulsa with their two dogs. Sarah McClelland ‘03 and Emily Bayyouk ‘03 participated as bridesmaids. Jarol LeGate ‘56 was in attendance along with several members of P.E.O. Danielle (Malloy) Warren ‘03 and familyDanielle (Malloy) Warren ‘03 wanted to show off her beautiful family. Her son Brice Maxwell Warren was born August 25, 2006, at 10:39 a.m. He was a big boy at 10 lbs., 9 oz., and 22 1/4 inches long. He has been keeping her very busy to say the least. Sarah (Bollinger) Salinas ‘03, Becky Bratt ‘03, Corey, Anastasia (Schoder) Thompson ‘03, Ashley Self, and Cindy Galyen at the Schoder-Thompson wedding ceremony. Anastasia (Schoder) Thompson ‘03 got married on December 22, 2006, at Secret Beach, Ko Olina, Hawaii. It was a beautiful ceremony at sunset. Two of her dearest friends from Cottey, Becky Bratt ‘03 & Sarah (Bollinger) Salinas ‘03 were in attendance, as well as two close friends from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Ashley Self and Cindy Galyen.
Corey and Anastasia are currently living in Hawaii at her parent’s house because he’s getting deployed in a few weeks. Corey is in the Submarine Force of the U.S. Navy. When he comes home they will start setting up their house. They will be stationed in Hawaii [at Pearl Harbor] for at least two more years.
Anastasia is still working at the elementary school in the Title 1 program. The school year is almost over and she is looking forward to summer! Next year she will continue to either work in the Title 1 program or teach ESL. Anastasia has the same e-mail plsexy5@hotmail.com.

Memphis Clay BronsonMemphis Clay Bronson was born March 3, 2007, at 8:03 a.m. He weighed 8 lbs., 4 oz., and was 20 inches long. Mom is Miranda Good ‘04. Deaths
1930s

Joan Amelia Whiles Huntsberry ‘34 died February 12, 2007, in Salem, Oregon. She was born March 4, 1915. She came to Cottey from Cushing, Oklahoma, as a 2nd grader and boarding student. She returned every year until graduating in 1934. She often reminisced about her life at Cottey and how she learned to eat everything while there. She snuck a cat into her room and kept her window ajar so it could go in and out on the fire escape. The friends she made were life long. Her family has great pictures of Joan as Cottey’s Drum Corps Major and the May Queen and yes, those swimming suits! Her mother, Julia Bryant Whiles, was a house mother or “chaperon” at Cottey for over 20 years beginning in 1927. In 1933, Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard, as President Emerita, wrote in Joan’s Sphinx yearbook: “Dear Joan, It has been a privilege to have you with us from childhood to girlhood and womanhood. May Cottey ideals guide you always. With love, V.A.C. Stockard.” Daughter, Marsha Huntsberry Kerr ‘61 currently resides in Salem.

Helen (Watkins) Burr ‘36 passed away April 24, 2007, in Johnston, Iowa. Helen was born in Wyoming and attended Cottey from Iowa. She was able to attend Founder’s Day 2006 for her 70th class reunion. Her husband and she wed in 1941. Following the war, they settled in Des Moines and raised three sons. She loved poetry, politics, and people. She believed in the goodness of others and shared hers willingly.

1940s

Margaret Louise (Chappell) Collins ‘44 died March 11, 2007, at the age of 81. She graduated from Cottey College iin 1944 and from the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1948, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She married C. Dean Collins in 1952. She was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church in Rock Island for 52 years. She also was an active member of the volunteer guild of the Quad City Symphony and a member of the P.E.O Sisterhood for 60 years. Margaret is survived by her husband; two daughters, Ann White Collins of Springfield and Meg Lindsey McGrew (husband, Matthew) of Rock Island; two granddaughters, Megan Louise O’Connor and Halle Ann O’Connor; one brother, Dr. Charles F. Chappell (wife, Doris); three nieces; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; and three step-granddaughters.

1960s

Kari (Opoahl) Grundt ‘63 died March 9, 2007, of heart problems. She had been hospitalized since August of 2006. She is survived by her husband Leif, three daughters, and six grandchildren. If you want to write, their address is Heggelibakken 15, 0375 Oslo 3 Norway.

Judy (Allen) Welch ‘68 died March 1, 2007, in Kansas City, Missouri. She is survived by her son and two daughters, her mother and four grandchildren.

1990s

Edith Helen Csorsz, ‘93 died May 4, 2007, in Twin Falls, Idaho, from injuries received in a vehicle accident. “Edie” grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1991. After attending Cottey Collegei, she lived in Kansas City, Missouri; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Tacoma Park, Maryland; before returning to Idaho Falls. She worked as a sales clerk and lead cook, and had returned to school to study medical transcription. She enjoyed culinary arts, needlepoint, craft work, and home decorating. Survivors include her mother, Violet I. Csorsz of Idaho Falls; father, Alex E. Csorsz of Kislod, Hungary; and sisters, Susie (Daniel) Brown of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Kate (Nate) Brogdon of Okinawa, Japan. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
